Server code. I hope thats not another million lines of Fortran.

The models themselves can be a bit flaky, but they do their thing. Where most of us interact with the project is the server side.

Are uploads working?
Tasks available?
Forums up?
Credit? None or too much isn't confidence inspiring for the rest of the backend system.

Message 49975 - Posted: 3 Sep 2014, 4:46:47 UTC - in response to Message 49889.

You said:

1. You can stop the BOINC Manager and all of the applications.

2. Edit the file statistics_climateprediction.net.xml in the BOINC folder.

3. Delete the group of lines with the obviously wrong info.

4. Save.

5. Re-start BOINC.

That made the "total host" credit number show correctly, but the "total user" credit is still displayed by the BOINC manager as 12901857519.579731 (!!) (Total host credit is shown correctly as 551,149 on my "account" page.)

When I press "update", then the following gets appended to statistics_climateprediction.net.xml:

<daily_statistics>
<day>1409702400.000000</day>
<user_total_credit>12901857519.579731</user_total_credit>
<user_expavg_credit>406.314666</user_expavg_credit>
<host_total_credit>294661.637691</host_total_credit>
<host_expavg_credit>173.418555</host_expavg_credit>
</daily_statistics>

So something is still supplying a bogus number for total user credit to my BOINC manager. (??)

Oh well, I suppose everything will eventually get straightened out. . .

Hallo

I think the Credit System has to be checked.

The new "Short" WU's has are very very bad Credit output.

HadAM3P-HadRM3P Australia New Zealand
Error while computing Seconds: 81,666.11
Credits: 509.72 --> 160 Seconds/Credit

Office HadCM3 short v7.24
Completed Seconds: 104,085.93
Credits: 311.04 --> 334 Seconds/Credit

HadRM3P Pacific North West
Completed Seconds:267,990.34
Credits: 3,008.20 --> 89 Seconds/Credit

HadRM3P Europe v6.09
Completed Seconds:262,918.85
Credits: 2,386.39 --> 110 Seconds/Credit

HadRM3P Australia New Zealand v6.10
Completed: Seconds:900,923.33
Credits: 5,974.74 --> 150 Seconds/Credit

All Tasks need nearly the same Energie for calculating, so it would be nice the get nearly the same Credits per hour.

If you read the messages below about the credit, you'll see that all of this known, and there are efforts under way to fix it.

The error with the runtime of the short models is known, and is discussed in another thread.

Apparently, "China's Tianhe-2 supercomputer is the fastest in the world at 33.86 petaFLOPS, or 33.86 quadrillion floating point operations per second."

Crikey, my PC's (erroneous) 2.13 sextillion floating-point operations sounded good until I worked out that Chinese supercomputer can do that for real in under 18 hours. :-(

Still, I'm jolly glad I printed off my certificate last night, before they fixed the credits.

It looks like the stats sites are getting back to normal.

Well, it was nice having 2,769,543,212 credits while it lasted...

Back to my normal 125,696 credits.

Imagine if you'd had eighteen digits worth of credits... (No, I didn't bother to capture a certificate; meaningless.)

We seem to have had an automated credit run in the past few hours. :(
And it's the week end. :( :( :(

News Flash - This Just In:

I ran the credit script unattended this afternoon, and it ran amok again.

I will correct it tomorrow by running the script manually.

Carl would have fixed this at once.

It's rather embarrassing when trying to recruit new users and and having to explain this.

Well, now it's Saturday, the credit script has run again --
are there any more complaints? ? :)

Huh? Problems getting acquaintances to start crunching. Huh?
I just use the facts that climate research is being under-funded for political reasons, there's not much money and it all has to go to the research, not some dippity points thing like frequent flier miles but with zero value.

Huh?

And I've recruited a few over the years.

Oh, I've been running a lot in beta for the last year on my little single linux box without any credit.

Lot's have happened lately with new clients but it would have been much better if people with many Linux boxen haven't been so lazy but chimed in to test ;-)

It has been quite some time since there was any update to my credits. However I see that there are many Pending Credits in my account. ???

How many times do we have to say it? Pending credit is NOT used in cpdn. It's just something that BOINC does, ignore it.

And the current problems with the credits system are explained in THIS thread, but it's now buried a long way down.
