I'm afraid that the Server Status is a bit of a red herring. It just means that the OS is running. It says nothing about the many scripts on it that should be running, or if one or more of the storage devices has become unmounted. And the system that gets the data for display on that page has been known to play up, so that even though an entry has gone red, it may not mean that the server in question has a problem. So it's best to rely on the BOINC messages. This project is tough on everything. |

I guess you're right, and I've just seen that the server status has been changed to not running. Check the explanations of the colour coding under the server list on the SSP. Red (not running) means that something broke, and the server is self-reporting that it needs some attention. Orange (disabled) is what happens when the server status "has been changed" by some external agency, like staff needing to do some work on it. BOINC has internal 'restart' scripts which run periodically to cope with transient errors. A server can go from red to green again without human intervention: a server which shuts down under heavy load - like the upload server today - could be a case in point. |
