Just out of interest, in 'Computing preferences' I have 'Maintain enough work for an additional' 10 days but never get more than a couple of tasks at a time. In the last few cases, about 4 days worth at a time. I once tried putting this variable to 24 but it got reset back to 10.
Any current limitations on number of tasks downloaded per person?

Not sure about limit/no of work units, I currently have two running and two in the queue did have three or four recently. Do you have non running units suspended? If you do, it won't download any more until those are un-suspended.

Just two tasks in the system.

I know this sounds obvious but have you set both minimum and maximum work buffer to 10 days which is the highest it accepts?

And with that setting, I have just downloaded another two tasks and now have 4 in the queue. (my box only has two cores on the processor.)

The way that I understand the system; if you set your work buffer for 10 day, thats 240 hours. Boinc will then send 240 hours of work for each core that you are allowing it to use. (If you have not restricted the number of cores that Boinc can use this number will be the same as the number of cores in you CPU.)

Boinc will base its calculation on the type of WUs you have selected and your computers CPU clock speed, and it's past history running that type. Sometimes it can be very inaccurate with time estimates, especially with model types that you have not run before. The process is (slowly) self-correcting as you finish several WUs.

Just realised the problem. I was running MalariaControl tasks when CPDN was pretty inactive and had set different parameters for BOINC - had forgotten to change them back. (One can't have different preferences for different projects - mores the pity)
Apologies for the confusion but thanks for your replies.

It looks as though I spoke too soon. Despite resetting the parameters, It's still the same situation.

Computer is connected to the Internet about every etc ... is blank
Maintain enough work for an additional .......................... 10

These parameters are set to be the same in both projects and and have been updated in BOINC.

It's very strange, as BOINC always used to down load additional work. (On both projects) I thought I'd found the cure but updating BOINC hasn't changed the situation.

Perhaps having reset the parameters, BOINC has gone back to init conditions on my account & is recalculating everything again. So as Jim says, it might be self correcting!!

Look under"Advanced" and "Event Log"
Do you see "not reporting or requesting tasks" or do you see "Don't need"
If you see "don't need" BOINC estimates you have enough work to keep your machine busy for whatever work you've got already, for the amount of time you specified in <work_buf_min_days>0.3</work_buf_min_days>
<work_buf_additional_days>0.3</work_buf_additional_days>

Sometimes BOINC totally miscalculates.

I'm getting "Not reporting or requesting tasks" . I get new tasks uploaded when current tasks are within a day of finishing. This would fit with having "Computer is connected to the Internet about every etc ..." set to 1. This is what I used a while back in the Malaria control settings. Since then I have set this to "blank" via update to both CPDN & Malaria Control accounts. Accessing my account from both projects shows the "blank" setting.

On second thoughts I don't see why this parameter should affect amounts of tasks when there is another parameter specifically for that purpose. (Maintain enough work for an additional..)
The phrase "BOINC will try to maintain at least this much work." does not imply setting a total lower limit, rather a sort of maximin boundary. In Malaria control I also had "Maintain enough work for an additional" set to 1 and was using (I thought) the "Computer is connected.. " parameter to be able to vary the Activity settings.

Perhaps I could simply try to stop & restart BOINC!!
