Carl, can you check this Work Unit for me...Result 11766 & Work Unit 11766...

Something Goofy has been going on with the PC that ran it ever since yesterday when I Re-Attached to Seti. #1 It won't run Seti & CPDN together, when I Attach to Seti BOINC either locks up or just won't start at all or if it does run all it will do is run the CPDN WU & never switch to the Seti WU.

I installed v4.08 at Rom Waltons request to see if that straightened it out but it was to no avail...It still screwed up I guess...There doesn't seem to be anything else wrong with the Computer as everything else seems to run ok, it's just with BOINC for some reason now...

That work unit should be finished but it's not showing that in my account. In fact the Work Unit still shows up in my projects folder for BOINC.

I had the computer disabled from network access overnight & when I reconnected this morning the 4 WU's that were showing in my BOINC GUI were wiped out, including the finished on & one that had over 500 hr's on it and was going to finish in about 3 days...Nothing showed up in the stderr.txt or stderr.old

I've copied the entire BOINC folder to another Computer because I want to try a few things to see if I can get the WU with over 500 hr's on it to show back up. It's still sitting in the BOINC Projects folder along with the Finished one but neither 1 is showing in the BOINC GUI...

Here's a readout from the stdout.old files after reconnecting this morning...

Do I need to just un-install BOINC Completely and check the Registry for any entries and then re-install it fresh again...I hate to do that as it wastes WU's but I don't know what else to do right now for that Computer...???

Looks like like this may be your problem, PoorBoy.

Try reconnecting to S@H without the trailing /

Ok, might as well give it a shot, the work from CPDN may be lost anyway as I've started 2 new work units on that computer and I might as well try and get it straightened out before I get to much time in them if it's going to screw up again...

Ok, that seemed to work Thyme, I tried the URL without the / and now it switched to the Seti WU's and started running them. Funny though my other PC's worked with the / included with no problems.

There still seems to be a problem with the PC though but I'm just goung to leave it run for now and see what happens. I still may need to do a complete un-install of BOINC & re-install it fresh but I'll wait and see if it screws up again...Thanks

Well this is just Freaking Great, 3 days after I ask for help on this PC & Work Units it was running I get this E-Mail from CPDN....
==========

Hello,

Forgive the email, but we have discovered that a batch of work units sent
out at the start of the CPDN/BOINC launch has an error in their configuration
that would prevent a file getting uploaded at the end of a run. If your machine(s)
listed below is still running the listed result, please do the following
to correct this problem.

1) stop the BOINC client on the machine
2) copy "client_state.xml" file in the BOINC directory to "client_state.bak",
just to have a backup in case the editing in 3) goes wrong
3) open the "client_state.xml" file in the BOINC directory in the text editor of your choice
4) search for "_1.zip" in this file
5) two lines down from this you should see a line starting with ""
6) change the value after "" from 1 to 5 (so it will be 5000000)
7) Important: do not edit any lines that are between (or just after)
a line beginning with ""
8) Repeat if you have other results affected on this machine from the list
below, bearing in mind you should not change a "" line that is
located between lined with "" and "" tags

There is also an online reference on the User Discussion page at:
http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?p=20943#20943

We do apologize for the trouble. It is not a "critical error" that would
prevent your run from completing, so if you have any apprehension about
editing this file, that is OK (it's just that the *_1.zip file will not be
sent, but other files will be).

This only effects a small number of work units that were sent out around the
time of the CPDN/BOINC launch on 26 August '04, and the machines and result
names are located below.

Sincerely,

Carl Christensen

Machine=home-ltrrfbdcq8 -- ResultName=03d2_500029343_0
Machine=PBOYZTOY4 -- ResultName=01re_100027267_1

==========

Well you can kiss that Work Unit "ResultName=01re_100027267_1" and another one that is Result ID 11766 on Host 40220 Goodbye because when I got no response from my plea for help I shit canned them both off my Hard Drive already by resetting the Project because they where taking up to much hard drive space and I figured they where lost...1100 hr's of cpu processing out the window...

The machine=home-ltrrfbdcq8 is not processing that work unit either, if fact it is not even a host of mine anymore and if at all possible would somebody take it off my Account...What happened was that PC was on order and the place that I ordered from started running that WU to see if it would take the stress. Well it wouldn't so we changed everything around on it hardware wise and it was assigned another Host ID which I have in my possession now and running WU's with it...

Hi, OK, it's no problem, it was just an "optional edit" to allow a file to get uploaded at the end.

Well I think it is a problem, not getting credit for finishing the WU's that had so many hr's invested in them bummed me out for a few days anyway... :(

>
>

So we have plenty of time to do this edit? As long as it gets done before the work unit ends, so that the file can be uploaded at that time? The work units don't speed up or anything once they reach phase three, do they?

Pam
who has to go mow the lawn now or else I'd sit down and do it.

Correct.

Afraid not.

I checked all my other Computers and the WU's they had and didn't find this flaw in the xml file on any of them so the rest should be ok...
