I hadn't used the laptop for some time, and when I unlocked it, I got a succession of fortran runtime error boxes, and five models had apparently crashed all at the same time. (It can only possibly run two models at once, so that in itself is very odd.) The stderr file in each case looked something like this: <core_client_version>7.2.42</core_client_version> Yesterday I looked at tasks apparently running on the laptop (from my desktop) and none had had any trickles reported for several days, nor any claimed or granted credit. It's an x86 running Vista. Any idea what is going on here please? Hostid 999072 My desktop (windows 7 x64) has reported no such errors, although there is the odd REPLANCA error from time to time. The r series of the hadcm3n type tasks all seem to crash after a while and we are now being advised to abort them. For the short models it is worth looking les's sticky post at the top of the preferences section of the message boards and ensuring you have all the settings as suggested there. Also if the computer is being shut down regularly this increases the chances of models failing, the short models being particularly prone to this on windows boxes. |

Most of your recent tasks show crashes on other PCs for every task of the workunit, with Invalid theta, no trickles, etc. There have been a number of models/batches over the past couple of months that exhibit the same symptoms as yours. Unless there is an underlying hardware fault, or maintenance e.g. clogged/failed fan, I'd suggest that your laptop has mostly been unlucky. In contrast, my PC has routinely received the duff models/tasks and a had spate of the infamous Fortan run-time error pop-ups, whilst the laptop here has been somewhat luckier with models/tasks. A regular reboot and clean restart of the laptop usually settles it down for about a week. |

Thanks for the reassurance. (Why am I not notified of replies when I have subscribed to the thread?) Brian |
