Message 50886 - Posted: 25 Nov 2014, 8:48:29 UTC - in response to Message 50883.

As discussed in a lengthy thread on the credits subject due to some problems when the credit script is run automatically as a cron job or scheduled task, it is now being run manually. My guess is that when there is a lull in the other work for the programmers it will be run manually again and credits will catch up with what they should be.

The trouble is that there are problems like the 2007s models to sort out which unlike the credit problems stop the science from happening so these take priority.

It would need a lot of people to put in substantial ammounts of money to up the number of programmers in order to obviate the need for making these choices so if anyone with large amounts of money to spare is reading this they should look for the donate button on the site!

Well, I have completed several tasks from the HadAM3P-series, more than 300,000 seconds each, no error, but also no credit (not even claimed):

The scripts only get run manually and intermittently now.
All of which is described in the Credits update? thread.

Quite coincidentally, one of those 'manual, intermittent' runs took place today.

Ive noticed that the credits have been updated several times in the last couple of days. Does this mean that the credit script has been fixed and will be running regularly from now on? Or did the staff just have some extra time and decided to run the script manually?

It is believed to be fixed. Jonathan says the 4th was the first time the script was allowed to run unattended. Each new day and credit run without problems improves the odds that it is indeed fixed.

I still wonder about the credits. I feel that me and my computers have reached much too lofty heights among the Top Participants. Sixth place!

You do have a total of 47 cores if I have added it up correctly, no 5 seems to have over 80! astroWX who is just behind you only has 28 so 6th place doesn't seem unrealistic. Also you are running linux on most of those boxes and a number of the recent batches of tasks have only been for linux so some of those only running windows may have dropped down the list a bit.

I also feel there's something strange happening, now that the problem with running the credit scripts automatically seems to be fixed.

It seems to be something specific to the HadAM3P (global only) with MOSES II landsurface scheme v7.03 models, which only run on Linux for now.

Look at yours, or my, running and completed models on the CPDN web. It looks to me like the 1,083.04 credit for a week's runtime for a completed model is a bit low, but, looking further, all of the credit appears to be posted after only one or two of the 10x60MB uploads have happened. Maybe that is why, now that my queue of other models has cleared and the backlog of these MOSES II things has started to run, the credit for my 33 useful cores has more than doubled (but started to drop again)

Or something like that.

But like the announce http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=5447&nowrap=true#50931 said -- these are the first priority for those who can run them (on Linux, and with zero pauses or reboots from model start to finished upload - from what I've seen here)
So, I've postponed a few unimportant security updates and suspend other work, and pushing these MOSES II things as fast as my hardware will let me (not real fast)

I'm sure there's something anomalous about those MOSES II things as far as credit goes. Also compare the elapsed vs cpu time on these on your user page -- weird. And looks like trickles after the twelfth don't show up on the task page.

I'm also sure that the compute power of my mini-farm didn't double or treble in the last 10 days. As far as the rankings -- dunno.

That sounds like an issue with the model type rather than the script. (Says I, probably knowing next to nothing about it!)

Yes, only first year trickles, that is why it only gives 1083,04 points.
This is a glitch in the server parameters for that kind of model and it have happened before since it have variable lengths.
It can easily be fixed to 10 years if a mod mails the staff.

Edit: well I assume you have sent trickles for all 10 years..otherwise the model is crocked

Jonathan has multiplied timestep by 10 which means tricles should now be processed rather than ignored. He will run credit script again when he has checked it is working.

Asteroids@home is currently moving their servers and the 6 laptops I have running were getting between 23,000 and 40,000 credits a day between Asteroids/PrimeGrid/SETI/Collatz/MOO!.
With Asteroids down SETI (resource 1000) and ClimatePrediction (resource 500) stepped up and now my RAC is between 2000 and 9000. ClimatePrediction is getting 1/2 of the CPU's available with those settings (no GPU).

That's a serious drop off. Event logs show no computation errors and I see that the credit scripts are getting run at least every other day so why's the credit 1/3 what Asteroids was getting?

The credit script seems to have stopped again, several days ago.
I'll send an email.

The place to read about the script problems is here.

We may be back to an occasional manual run, while it's given some more thought.

I was starting to hypothesis my equipment is too old to run ClimatePrediction because the credit received was so small per day compared to other projects.

Under my account it lists my RAC as 1,398 on the equivalent of 6 2nd gen i5 CPU's.
Asteroids@home gets 10,000 RAC on those same 6 CPU's.

EDIT: OK, I see that I have pending credit not applied as far back as Dec 9th so it's going to effect the RAC even on my account page.

I'm still curious if credit received from ClimatePrediction is equivalent to Asteroids.

EDIT 2: OK, the pending credit packets identify as claimed then granted and so seem to be in the RAC calculation. I'm baffled now.

BTW, thanks for answering Les, I notice how much time you spend answering questions on here.
