Pending Credit Catchup Problem, for me ~150k owed or outstanding.

Is it a systemwide problem or some ongoing 3 month glitch?

IF it is, consider giving people the credit with some extra Interest to make up for the delays and glitches.

Hi, as mentioned in other threads, pending credits is not used by CPDN Credits are granted based on trickle up messages sent by tasks as they progress meaning that even if a task crashes you still get credit based on work done. The pending credit figure is to do with the BOINC server program which insists on producing that figure. Because the pending credit system where used usually depends on a second computer sending in a result that corroborates the first one for a task sent in and CPDN doesn't send the same task to other computers except when the task fails to complete on the first one this will never happen so your "pending credit" will keep going up.

That is not to say there aren't problems from time to time with credit on CPDN but in my experience credit is always given eventually.

I am aware of the different nature of Climate Simulation work units vs most other work units.

The BOINC system was somewhat redesigned to handle the "Unique Work Unit" parameter [that is the default setting with Climate Prediction] (as no other project, save the Earthquake Sensor etc does this).

However, for work units that did not complete -- in order to keep user loyalty ... is it not good practice to grant credit for the Trickles Sent? In granting trickle credit, it also opens up a window for database cleaning and normalizing.

This IS what happens. But the BOINC parts aren't reset to zero.
And it doesn't matter if the model completes or not, just as long as it returns trickle_up files during what was processed, so that they can be converted to credit. Which currently happens once per day.

No, because CPDN doesn't use pending credit. See below.

However there have been some problems with the server(s) dealing with the trickle up messages over past couple of days. Not sure if they are all fixed yet. If not the credit will be granted once the feeders are running again. (may take up to 24 hours as the credit script just runs once per day.)

Looking at one of my tasks that finished today it is still not showing any credit so I would assume that the feeder is not up and running again yet.

On second thoughts, looking at my tasks, the trickle ups are being recorded on the task pages so it is more likely the crdit script has fallen over and needs restarting manually.

And the script is running as I type. Should see updates in a couple of hours or so. A bit longer on external sites some of which only access the CPDN info once a day.

Jonathan did try running the script yesterday. Will find out what went wrong on Monday probably.

Hi,

The problem with credit was down to an infrastructure fault on our servers.
The BOINC server could not connect to the database server, which meant that the credit script stalled.

Once the problem was ironed out the credit script was restarted and AFAICS ran successfully.
