Message 4242 - Posted: 17 Sep 2004, 10:05:58 UTC

I was about 30% through processing a workunit.

My computer froze, so I had to power it off to reboot it. Upon reloading, my workunits (both SETI and CP) were all lost, and it just reloaded a new workunit and started processing from 0%.

Anyone know why this is? I am running Windows XP with 1GB of RAM and an AMD XP2800+ CPU.

Here are my messages:

This is the line that's caused the problem:

--- - 2004-09-17 10:31:32 - State file has different major version (0.00); resetting projects

This is caused by a problem with the client_state.xml file.

Hello, same problem. Is there a way around it so that you can resume where it left off, or is it just gone.

I'm afraid that one's gone :(

Obviusly no immediate consolation to either of you, but I've had a fix for the problem accepted and it'll be included in BOINC 4.10 :)

In the main BOINC directory there should be a file called client_state_prev.xml, that should be a backup of the client_state.xml. Rename to client_state.xml and you should be abel to resume lost work if the workunits are still on disk. The downside it that this action will cause the new workunits to be lost instead.

That might not be of much use as it gets overwritten every time client_state.xml is updated. BOINC 4.10 will automatically revert using to client_state_prev.xml if client_state.xml is empty or corrupt.
