I learned that I will be getting a new computer soon here at work. How do I go about backing up the current workunit and transferring it over to my new machine?

you can't, the workunit must be crunched and returned by the same machine which downloaded it

It is possible:

Backup your C:\Program Files\BOINC to a safe location (thumbdrive?)

Install your new computer, and copy the backupped BOINC folder to C:\Program Files. Then install the latest version of the BOINC core client.

All attached projects will still be there, including the work-units and they'll be processed from the point you stopped the old computer. If there were no changes in the project-apps, everything will work right away.

There's discussion about it <a href="http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?p=20927">here</a>. I'm not sure whether anyone has yet returned a completed WU to the server after such a process, but because of the length of CPDN models there is an accepted need for the facility.
