With "In a single daily email" in "Community preferences" checked, I didn't receive any e-mail when subscribed threads have new posts. Changed back to "Immediately, by email". They have been trying to upload for the last 22 hours at the time of writing this post. I too could post a long string of failed upload messages and back off times, but you seam more than already aware of it. The only useful information is the url for the stuck uploads. Then a message can be targeted to the correct place. And that url info is in the client_state.xml files on peoples computers.
