Anyone know when I should check back for work? I have Linux machines. Should I check back in April, summer, or in the fall?

Being the warmest year on record, you'd think lots of money would be put into the next batch of research...

All of the researchers seem to be interested in the variable length, variable area, WaH2 models at the moment.

As for Linux, the only answer is "In the future".
(Unless you join some of us in running Wine. Thread in the Linux section.)

I would add to Les's response that unlike when I tried it and failed several years ago, the latest stock Wine and BOINC seem to work pretty well out of the box. On one of my two machines I had to go to the 32 bit version for it to work. Not quite sure why that was as others have not had that problem. This based on the latest Ubuntu distribution but others are using different distros and have had similar success.

Thumbs up and go for wine. I have it on two of my machines and so far they work pretty well. It is better to run 32 bit WINE even on 64 bit machine as there are fewer bugs. It should work out of the box unless you want to install wine and win apps on other than /home/user directory (as I did to avoid CPDN using my SSD). Make sure you check the advices at https://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ if you run into some troubles during installation.

Just to say, for those waiting for Linux work who don't want to use wine, the hadcm3n tasks which were sent out with settings for the 3s tasks making the final downloads too big will be resent once some of the other current problems are sorted, hopefully before the end of the week.

The current W@H2 batch currently being added to the server (>11,000 at the moment) is for both Linux and Windows.

Shockingly, the speed for this new app appears to be virtually the same on Linux as on Windows. SHADES OF 2007!

Which of these units are for the Marius project which Les says are "super urgent" so that we can suspend other tasks if needed?

I think all of the current batch up there are Marius. I suspect others won't be released till these are gone.

All my boxes are crunching under wine at the moment and the linux client won't run alongside the wine one - I and others have tried!

I've decided to reboot my Linux machine running wine and on relaunching WINE I somehow forgot to firstly exit linux boinc (suspended though). Boinc wine is crunching just fine. However I will not risk launching Linux boinc manager, just to shut down the main process. Will wait few days to finish the models under wine than will see whether will switch to Linux or continue with wine and the new tasks. (bit off topic sorry)

Thinking that BOINC has no provision for having two different OS, as different as wine Win 10 and linux 4.2 on the same host at the same time. Wine fakes it, but no way to expect that BOINC can deal with same machine, 2 OS. Really not.

Yeah, you can run both when running one copy in the native OS, and the other in an actual virtual machine, but Wine doesn't fake Windows well enough to be able to separate two boinc executables on the same PC that way.
