Will there be a more constant flow of WU's for both Linux and Win10 ?? I hope there will be more work for Linux in the near future, - I currently have two machines running Linux but using WINE and an aging 1.6GHz atom based netbook which I thought had died but turns out not to have done and so I have it finishing off a task from June last year, and checking daily for other Linux work more just as a check to see if any has arrived than anything. As to a more constant flow, the flow of work does not come from Oxford now but comes through Oxford managed by them for scientists from many universities etc. around the world. When they want work done, Oxford processes it and sends the tasks out to us crunchers so the bottom line is No guarantees and it may be that under the current political rather than meteorological climate in the States, work from there might be in a drought situation soon. |

It probably won't be that bad. It will just be labelled "climate studies of typhoons that prevent imports from China". |

To add a bit more to what Dave said: This is a recent thread about Android, and gives the main difference between the two technologies. I think that most other projects, such as SETI, use integer maths, whereas cpdn uses floating point maths, with as much resolution as possible. I read years ago that it was 80 bit words, but this may well have changed over the years. Floating point is necessary to encompass the range of "lots" of units, e.g. water vapour, to a few parts per million of things such as sulphur particles. With MOSES II, (a land surface scheme), and TRIFFID, (a Dynamic Global Vegetation Model), the researchers can see the small differences in various gasses over areas of forest, compared to that over glaciers. This may give an insight into part of this for those of an enquiring mind: Dynamic_global_vegetation_model Note the reference to Mortality in the table, and a similar reference to an upcoming project on cpdn's front page: Forest Mortality, Economics, and Climate in Western North America (FMEC). See the small white areas in the top left of the map? Glaciers. |

Thank you Les and Dave et al Dont I wish I had the time to catch up on all the complications, and I should have done a search re the code owners etc And my reference to Linux on older machines is for CPDN only, because crunching was slow, but Linux did the work. And Les,the link to forestry etc is very appropriate today because our friends and relatives on the West Coast are suffering some of the worst snowfalls in living memory. I have been lookin for some of CPDN's models which may have seen some of that coming last year. Others did but got very little coverage. I may be a bit offtopic but RaspberryPi has a recent version called PIXEL for laptops and PC's. No power savings there. |

Is it only for WIN machines (Weather At Home 2 (wah2) v8.24)? I run this on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 machine with a four-core Xeon 64-bit processor. I have the 32-bit compatibility libraries installed. I have been getting very very few work units, but yesterday I got three. Here is part of the log so you can tell what they needed to download. I deleted all the download complete messages to relieve boredom. All three are now running, and each has sent up one trickle. 16-Feb-2017 12:39:06 Scheduler request completed: got 3 new tasks 16-Feb-2017 12:39:08 Started download of wah2_sas50_ms00_201512_13_530_010939649.zip 16-Feb-2017 12:39:08 Started download of restart_atmos_s06g_2005-1201_rd0001.gz 16-Feb-2017 12:39:09 Started download of restart_sas50_s06g_2005-1201_rd0001.gz 16-Feb-2017 12:39:19 Started download of ic19610807_10_N96.gz 16-Feb-2017 12:39:21 Started download of ALLclim_ancil_14months_OSTIA_sst_2015-12-01_2017-01-30.gz 16-Feb-2017 12:39:24 Started download of ALLclim_ancil_14months_OSTIA_ice_2015-12-01_2017-01-30.gz 16-Feb-2017 12:39:25 Started download of so2dms_rcp45_N96_2009_2020.gz 16-Feb-2017 12:39:27 Started download of oxi.addfa.gz 16-Feb-2017 12:39:39 Started download of ozone_rcp45_N96_2009_2020v2.gz 16-Feb-2017 12:39:41 Started download of wah2_sas50_mryy_201512_13_530_010939611.zip 16-Feb-2017 12:39:42 Started download of ic19610425_12_N96.gz 16-Feb-2017 12:39:45 Started download of wah2_sas50_mrcu_201512_13_530_010938815.zip 16-Feb-2017 12:39:46 Started download of restart_atmos_s058_2001-1201_rd0001.gz 16-Feb-2017 12:39:54 Started download of restart_sas50_s058_2001-1201_rd0001.gz 16-Feb-2017 12:39:55 Starting task wah2_sas50_mryy_201512_13_530_010939611_0 using wah2_ri version 812 in slot 4 16-Feb-2017 12:39:55 Starting task wah2_sas50_ms00_201512_13_530_010939649_0 using wah2_ri version 812 in slot 5 16-Feb-2017 12:40:05 Started download of ic19611016_10_N96.gz |

Is it only for WIN machines (Weather At Home 2 (wah2) v8.24)? The ones you are running are Weather At Home 2 (wah2) (region independent) v8.12 i686-pc-linux-gnu and (wah2) (region independent) v8.12 could run on Linux, MS and MAC OS as shown on the apps page. |

45373 in “tasks ready to send”. Kind of looks like the old days 10 years ago when there was always tens of thousands of tasks ready to be sent. Not like now when it is feast or famine. |

Why then does the BOINC client take users to the non-SSL cert protected account login pages still???? http://www.climateprediction.net/ |

Hi Dave That's due to this: Site upgrade. But changing the 1st part of the url manually works OK. Change all of your bookmarks. And I'd suggest that having a bookmark of your Account page is a good idea too. |

And it seems some newer WUs like this hadcm3s_70ul_200012_168_514 can run on both Linux and Win systems. |

That's what all 4 of the batch 561 tasks did on the linux PC I have running. Doesn't look like Windows PCs are doing much better, although apparently not failing at the same location in the run. The batch 562 and 563 runs were working okay for me. |

Since this new batch has been released I've had 3 sets of downloads to different machines. Two sets successful and running but with the set on my MAC OS, all the downloads are pending (For the past 36 hours) and being retried. Error message EG :- Download pending (Project backoff 00:08:07) Also, despite being logged in, when I access the message boards via my MAC OS, the system says that I'm NOT logged in?? I'm writing this via a Windows virtual machine running on the same MAC. All very strange. Any suggestions welcome. If I stop & restart BOINC do I lose the new tasks? (Worst case scenario - for me) |

Additional --- In the messages I'm getting :- "Temporarily failed download of ... HTTP Error" Solved the 'login problem' by accessing the message boards indirectly. |
