Needless to say, these were gone before most of us knew they were there but I think that following this small batch, a larger one will be released as soon as it is clear everything is working as it should. |

Any news when and if Linux and Mac users will get WUs to crunch? |

There are some tasks being tested for Linux at the moment which it is hoped get around the problems causing tasks from many batches to crash. I haven't noticed any for Mac but if I see any movement on this will pass on the information. Even if the testing is successful, I am not sure it will be in time for the next round of batches being released to crunchers. |

It is thought that some of the problems with the Linux tasks crashing may be related to building them on a 64bit system. Not sure how this relates to the crashes at the same point on Macs. There are currently a few tasks going through testing with Linux to see if building them on a 32 bit OS resolves this. I will have some idea of whether this fix works or if the problem lies elsewhere by Friday when two tasks that have gone to one of my Linux machines are due to finish. I don't know if an equivalent fix by going back to an earlier version of Mac software to compile the builds is possible or not. Given that it is not really understood yet why any of these tasks on Linux or Mac are crashing other than the possibility of the build system in the case of Linux answering questions in any more detail by myself would be no better than crystal ball gazing! |

Some more tasks from batch 643 (hadcm3s) have been dumped in the hopper and scooped out again by the many machines waiting before I had a chance to see if they were available to Linux machines. (I presume they were but without constantly monitoring my various sources of information actually being fast enough to get any is a matter of chance.) |

My Linux box is a 4-core 64-bit Xeon machine. It has both 32-bit and 64-bit libraries, so I could run ClimatePrediction tasks built for either target. World Community Grid send me work units for both. So you guys could do it too. wcgrid_oet1_gfx_linux_prod_32.x86.7.19 wcgrid_oet1_gfx_linux_prod_64.x86.7.19 wcgrid_oet1_vina_7.19_i686-pc-linux-gnu wcgrid_oet1_vina_7.19_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu wcgrid_scc1_gfx_7.08_i686-pc-linux-gnu wcgrid_scc1_gfx_7.08_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu |

I don't know where that sits with the 32 bit code that belongs to the Met Office under a licence that doesn't allow it to be changed that Oxford are using. I think a big part of the problem comes into the category of, "If I wanted to go there, then I wouldn't start off from here." |

I do not really care if they send i686 code (32-bit) or x86_64 (64-bit) code, since I can run either as WCB show. What I care about is that they should just send some work units for either architecture. |

I see we have some new work. Some wah2_pnw’s (batch 695) and wah2-global’s (batch 696). Not sure how many as they seem to all be gone now. |

Have put WINE back on my desktop Linux box ready for when new work becomes available. Keeping slightly faster (and running 24/7) laptop for Linux only as it takes testing tasks which may contribute to getting native Linux tasks back. |

The restart uploads for these batches will be after the first month. This is expected. |
