I have read this FAQ 5.5 answer, but I can see there are tasks available on the server status page.

I also have room for hosting new tasks (all other BOINC projects are prevented to get new ones, so I have a few spare CPU while their last tasks are running). I also have my account valid and everything..

Yet, when I ask for job, all I get is:

climateprediction.net | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
climateprediction.net | Requesting new tasks for CPU
climateprediction.net | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
climateprediction.net | No tasks sent

Why is it so? I have been running BOINC for a few weeks and never had a task from cpdn :(

This is it. Thank you for your help !

That model type is Windows only.
Some of us have gotten around this by running Wine, then a Windows version of BOINC. Sticky post 2nd from the top of this Linux section.

I'm running Linux Mint, which has an easy access to Wine on this page.

Okay. This is the reason why then. Thank you for explaining :)

It would've been less confusing if the log had shown:

climateprediction.net | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
climateprediction.net | Requesting new tasks for CPU
climateprediction.net | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
climateprediction.net | No tasks sent: CPDN model type cannot be run on your platform.

Is there a formal way I could ask BOINC for this small feature? Or ask cpdn to extend to new platforms?

If you look at http://www.climateprediction.net/cpdn-in-2016-a-look-back-over-the-last-year/ item linked to in science section it does say that

We understand that there are still some issues and are thereby making the full roll out onto all platforms of all models a priority.

However, I don't have any time scale on this and am continuing to use Wine until native linux tasks appear again. (Unless using a vm by the way, you can't run the linux and windows versions of BOINC simulaneously - I and others have tried!)

I see that a few thousand hadcm3s tasks have gone in the hopper and had hoped that these might be available for Linux but having tried to get some, it seems no dice. Back to the advice I was given in the army - Hurry up and wait!

Dave

For some odd reason, the link that you posted doesn't work. It points to "the bit bucket".
So here it is again:

There's also this page called Technical FAQs, which is linked to from the projects front page.
Section 2.3 explains why there aren't all model types for all operating systems.

BOINC is no longer being developed by paid programmers, just a few volunteers, occasionally, who would need to be convinced that time should be spent on this problem.
Which would be tricky, as the model types and what they run on gets changed from time to time.

And new versions of the programs get produced from time to time to improve things. But you can only know this if you keep a log of the version numbers, and also of the Applications page, which shows what is available for each OS.

Discussions about all of this occurs now and then in the Number crunching section.
