My ISP provides fiber-optic Internet speeds of nominally 75 megabits/second and it goes through a 1 Gigabit NIC. That is 9375 megabytes/second.

Actual speeds are:
Download Speed: 64790 kbps ( 8098.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 88192 kbps (11024 KB/sec transfer rate)

A few minutes ago, I got two new (actually, retries) Climate Prediction work units, but they downloaded at about 64 KB/sec.

My question is: is the bottleneck the ClimatePrediction servers, or the Internet backbone?

I've noticed that since the long server failure few weeks ago download speed decreased dramatically. I also have fairly fast internet 30 Mb.

Does it really matter if the WU’s download slowly? It happens in the background and it’s not like we are sitting there (most of the time) waiting for it to happen. Maybe it is set that way so that CPDN doesn’t hog all the bandwidth on slower connections.

Not noticed any change in Download speeds here. Currently uploading to site at about 112KB/s From memory my last download came in about 550KB/s which is getting close to the spec on my ageing router!

Do not users set the maximum speed they want just so they can control that? Some BOINC servers seem to guess your maximum speed based on historical data. I do not think ClimatePrediction does this.

My network limits are set thus:

Network
Usage limits
Limit download rate to 9375 KB/second
Limit upload rate to 9375 KB/second
Limit usage to --- MB every --- days

So they certainly have my permission to download or upload much faster than they actually do.

My network connection is running even faster this morning than last evening.

Download Speed: 74317 kbps ( 9289.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 88927 kbps (11115.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
