Hi! I just recently returned to this project. After several trickle uploads, I have not received any credit yet. I thought credit was issued after every trickle upload. Has something changed?

Credit is updated about every 7 days.

Though it looks like the credit script missed its usual Saturday run last week.

Yes, last week script run on Sunday morning. Maybe people are on vacation. I think we must be patient.

"usual Saturday run" not really.
Maybe 3/4 Fridays or Saturdays or Sundays the credit script runs, or fails, and runs a day or week later.
I think that is a more accurate description of when the credit script runs. I think that "usual" implies more regularity than in fact happens.

Say "the credit script runs most weeks on Friday,Saturday, or Sunday, and usually completes before the weekend is over, but sometimes fails and runs successfully next week"

I think that's a more honest description.

Point conceded on the regularity of the script running and agreed the science is the main thing. I haven't been checking when it has run as often as I did when there seemed to be more days with posts asking about where credit was than days without!

In my defence, the past several times I have checked, my credit has always gone up on Sundays leading me to assume the script was started at some point on Saturday.

I do wonder what effect the infequent credit updates (together with the large work unit sizes) have on the work allocation between projects on my PC. I run three projects, supposedly with a 40/30/30 percent balance between them (on four cores and a GPU), yet Climateprediction always seems to be all or nothing on the four non-GPU cores. Two projects update several times each day, but the infrequent Climateprediction updates result in very high 'average work done' figures compared to the other projects.

I confess that I sometimes get impatient and suspend one or other project to balance things out a bit.

Yes, I know. I really should research how the BOINC work allocation system works.

The BOINC manager considers many factors when allocating run time between projects, but I don't think project credit is one of them.

Any sign that the credit script is going to run this weekend?

Well, this second sunday is ending without credit updates and, despite of everything said in this thread in terms of science vs numbers, etc, I wonder if we do not deserve some words from those responsible of running these credit scripts, in case these are not set to auto run in a crontab.

A server hung, a fault in a motherboard that is waiting for a replacement, a hard drive full and/or even maintenance crew on vacation, is much more understandable than silence, especially when we use to see other Boinc projects updating on the fly several times a day, although it is true that the work units of cpdn are especially large.

By the way, couldn't these credit scripts run every night, at quiet hours, eg 0 UTC?

It is anybody out there?

A few of us lurk in the wings, but can't do anything about the problem except send another message to staff -- which I will do.

As to more-frequent runs: It used to be done but, given that CPDN uses its own credit technique and the script now takes so long to run, there are not enough hours in a day ...

Staff replied to my message of late yesterday. The script has not been changed and was manually started before the message to me. It runs a long time and I won't know when it finishes -- (in recent weeks my machines ran, and continue to run, CPDN development work, for which we receive no boinc credit...) You'll know when you find your credit adjustment posted in your account.

Hang in with us. It is the science that matters, not credit, eh?

I agree with that as posted previously, but credit updates also gives us the feedback of a living/running project.

Accepting that this cpdn boinc infraestructure requires long credit script times, and so must be run weekly and in weekends, I do insist in a better comunication of administrators with us, eg via the bam's Notices tab.

Evidence for that can be found by the trickles going to the server that are on your tasks' web pages. Also a new batch of work 648 has been sent to the servers today.

That seems only evidence that my machine is crunching and uploading finished tasks to the server. Just this.

If we add to this the fact, confirmed by moderators (check next link), that validate pending in my task's page means nothing at all, it has nothing to do with credit status, can anyone tell us what's going on, after three weeks without credit status update?

One more time, and sorrying to bore you about it, I'm here and in a few other BOINC projects, for the sake of the science, but numbers are important, of course they are, for many reasons, feedback is only one of them.

On the other hand, discussing these topics, gives us a deeper understanding about how it works, of course!

Thank you for it and best regards

Hi Fasanzaf,
I have been busy so not had a chance to check things till today. An attempt to run the credit script manually was done last week as stated by astroWX. There hasn't been any feedback from that yet but had it been successful credit would have been updated by now. I can message the project people again but I suspect they are already on trying to work out why the script failed.Like AtroWX I am concentrating on development work for which there is no credit at the moment as well so checking my own main machines won't tell me if it has run or not.

Just to confirm,
I have had confirmation that this is being worked on and the person involved is currently trying to work out what is causing the error:

ERROR 1242 (21000): Subquery returns more than 1 row

This is not obvious as there have been no changes to the script since the last successful run.

Any more news will be posted when it is available but an increase in credit may be the first indication. I am loathe to send any more messages which may take time away from finding the cause of the problem.
