Don't know if this is just with 6.8.3 because I have never run multi cpu tasks before. I suspended all amicable numbers tasks when I got three CPDN tasks, then un-suspended one to allow it to use the remaining core.

However BOINC said it was using all four cores though according to BOINC the three CPDN tasks were still running.

I then ran top to try and see what was actually happening and it informed me that the three CPDN tasks were stopped and the usage figure for the amicable numbers task indicated it was indeed using all four cores.

I have therefore suspended amicable numbers while the three CPDN tasks run.

Don't know whether I should submit it to the BOINC developers as a bug. To me it is just a quirk that doesn't really bother me. I do suspect that if I hadn't noticed it, I would have found a way to really screw up BOINC's estimation of time remaining however!

Dave -- I've never noticed this...but will keep an eye on it -- since I run some multiple core jobs. If I see this again, I can report it.

Assume you are using 7.8.3 (not 6.8.3...that's a typo).

BOINC has ALWAYS been this way as far as I recall - ALL CORES or NOTHING for Multi-task projects.

Not that surprised, it is the manager still showing the paused tasks as running that confused me till I looked at CPU usage.

Thanks for the replies.

Unless you use an app_config.xml file, yep
