In case you missed the this recent post in the News forum:

From Andy at CPDN staff:

To comply with the Data Protection Act 1998, we are required to only keep personal data for as long as it is absolutely necessary. We will therefore only keep records of inactive volunteers for three years from now on. Initially any records inactive since 2014 or before that date will be removed. We will continue to remove records that have been inactive for three years or more on an ongoing basis.
Therefore anyone who signed up prior to this and has been inactive for over three years but wishes to renew their engagement will need to set up a new account. If you have been inactive for the last couple of years and wish us to retain your email and username, please reactivate your account as soon as possible.

Project credits from these accounts will be retained but will no longer be linked to an email address or username.

Current, active, volunteers, or those who have been active in the last three years, will not be affected by this policy.

I've renewed my account but will I be getting my missing credit back?

If I get confirmation that this can happen, I will set up a thread for those wishing accounts to be restored along with credit to post to so that all the requests can be in one place rather than spread over a number of threads.

Got this from Andy today which confirms what I thought. Anyone who needs to have an account re-instated please post here and a moderator should pick it up.

Hi Dave,

Sorry for the delay in replying to this. The only fields that were erased were the username and email fields, so any other data will be retained. If one of the Moderators lets me know, I can restore the username and email of a volunteer if it has been requested.

Best regards,

Andy

I would also like to have my 73760.86 credits restored if it's possible.
Thanks

Is it possible to have one's account restored without creating a (temporary) new one?

Looks like no one gives a damn to the users here, so I'm staying elsewhere until this project admin group sorts their collective ideas out.

It looks like they way this is being done has the effect of generating a new CPID for the users that are removed. So their historic contribution is no longer associated with the user on the stat sites.

That is defiantly one way to say you don't care about the users that have contributed to your project over the years.

Well, this doesn't look too promising, I hope they can locate mine. My account is still here, you can see by the original join date and I'm pretty sure it was between 500,000 and 1,000,000 points.

If you can locate the data, I'll by ya a couple of beers. I realize you guys have much more important things to worry about.

Well thanks for your lack of interest in your users. I shall not be crunching for this project again and you may delete my current unused account.

Are any other projects doing this? Seems a bit odd, though I know there are also users who get angry when they're told that their stats will live on forever since it's the Internet, and it's hard to make things really disappear, especially when there are mirrors and stats sites that keep it separately from the projects.

Honestly, I have no idea. Projects based in non EU countries aren't covered by this legislation. I suspect that what has happened is that someone at Oxford Uni has told everyone what they have to do.

I do know that in order to comply with the legislation an organisation I am involved with that took signups for our email newsletter at events, is having to contact them all and get confirmation that they wish to remain on the list because we didn't keep all the sign up sheets and so have no way of differentiating between those who have signed up on line and the others. I am aware of it causing headaches for other organisations as well. I don't know which other BOINC projects are UK/EU based to go and have a browse of their forums.

Everything was still intact in my GPUGrid and LHC accounts.
