Message 58035 - Posted: 31 Mar 2018, 7:35:34 UTC - in response to Message 58033.

Not trying to use two routers at the same time (though the new router was supplied with a lead which had two sockets which would have allowed me to try it.)

Problem occurs both with direct connection and with directly connected lead.

On laptop which has 2 pnw tasks, one sas and one sam task zips for the pnw tasks have uploaded whereas the latest one for the sas50 hasn't. Still waiting for first on the sam25 to be created. I have suspended network activity on laptop so I can easily check the file size to see if that is the problem.

One more thing to try; a cc_config option:

Afraid it made no difference Les.

It is beginning to look like the new router has bad buffer memory that affects large uploads and downloads. It may not be a problem on small files.
Is there an easy way to check the buffer memory on a router?

Not that I know. The other ready explanation is the firmware, but if you have the latest, there is not much more you can do. If you could borrow another router, I would try that as a test.

But, depending how how risk-prone (and desperate) you are, you could try re-flashing to the old firmware, and then back to the new one again. Flash memory sometimes has stuck bits that might be interfering with the transfers.

I don't know if this would address the issue, but there is a beta for that model. On the Administration page, Firmware Upgrade tab of the router management GUI for most ASUS routers, if you check the Get Beta Firmware box, you can check for it and upgrade to it if available.

Also, from the ASUS forum for the DSL-AC56U http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20160304174153203&board_id=11&model=DSL-AC56U&SLanguage=en-us&page=13

Thanks George, will try the beta firmware. Overnight had network activity turned off and this morning I saw that the zips going through are just 7.86MB in size compared with 46 and 93 for the failures so it does look like file size is part of the issue. If no joy with firmware will contact ASUS again. - No reply so far.

Clicking check for beta didn't find it so I downloaded manually. First attempt said the file was invalid so I downloaded again and this time flashed successfully but the problem remains. Have sent further feedback to ASUS.

Another firmware update but getting message that project servers may be off-line so have to wait till more moves on current problems before I know whether there is a fix or not.

Put new router back into the system after having been using old one without wireless and the last firmware update seems to have fixed it. (Or something else has changed in that time that has gotten rid of the problem. - I can't be bothered to revert to previous firmware update to confirm the source of the problem.)

Good to have it working as I can plug usb drives into it for storage and when next year I think fibre is supposed to come to box in street, it will be able to cope with the increased speed.

Or not fixed. most of the time I get a 408 error message when I try and update but only if running BOINC under WINE. native linux client updates normally. Have as a temporary measure put old router back in place. Zips are being uploaded normally now however and it is just the scheduler requests that are the problem.

The fact that WCG works normally and it is only the WINE version that has problems with the new router makes me think tracking this one down is not going to be easy.
