Message 58330 - Posted: 3 Jul 2018, 13:53:39 UTC - in response to Message 58329.

latest is I could connect but message was

03/07/2018 14:43:42 | climateprediction.net | [http] [ID#1] Info: TLSv1.2 (OUT), TLS alert, Client hello (1):
03/07/2018 14:43:43 | climateprediction.net | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
03/07/2018 14:43:43 | climateprediction.net | Project is temporarily shut down for maintenance

This is consistent with the latest news from Andy.

Hi All,

I am afraid there has been an issue with the underlying storage of CPDN. The storage of CPDN is held on a GPFS storage unit, this has experienced an issue with one of it's power cooling modules. The servers of the project are unaffected, however the download files of the project are held on the GPFS storage and these are inaccessible. This will mean that we cannot start the project again until this is solved.

Best regards,

Andy
Hi All,

We are going to use down period for the chance to take a backup of the database. So I will need to disconnect the database from the website for 24 hours for this to occur. Now as we have no slave database machine we have to make regular downtimes in order to take dumps of the database. A new slave machine has been ordered so we only need to do this for a finite period.

Best regards,

Andy

I am also looking forward to being able to deliver the calculation results and make myself available to new messages. However, as previously suggested, I am keeping the attempts quite until I know the system has been up a while, as it has been suggested that the long-term backlog could be causing a DDOS condition.

It's working, it’s working Joy of Joys. I managed to add it as a new project on one of the new systems I have set up since it went off line. This is wonderful as it does truly seem that the weather has is really starting to show the effects of global warming.
I know there are those in the world that choose to believe that humans have nothing to do with global warming. Those people must have their heads so far up, well you get my meaning. Anyway since we messed it up the very least we can do is donate of computers free time to doing something to try to understand what it will mean to us. I am so very happy to be able to get back to crunching number to help the world again. Thanks to all those unsung heroes that worked so hard so long to get the project back up. And thanks you Dave and Andy for taking the time to keep us updating on what was happening.

Do you mean they contemplate the world through a glass navel?

Me too. Sometimes it lasts up to about 30 seconds. Usually a refresh or two resolves it within 5seconds.

Have passed this on to Andy to add to his list on Monday assuming it isn't a known issue that is already there.

Well, you can't have global warming when the Earth is flat.
It'd be more like disk warming. :)

Told this now fixed. CPU usage on application server was 100% If it recurs Andy will increase the number of CPUs on the machine.

But at least you can push the disk warming deniers off the edge.

On the other hand - Cold weather: If you're shivering today, spare a thought for these cows

Which explains why I've been freezing the last few days. And there's more to come.

(Guyra is well known for being very cold in winter.)

Cold? The Russians have a saying “there is no such thing as cold, just wrong clothing.”

True saying, when in the forces, I camped in Norway in -40C one year, though I never found clothing to make the +40C in Zimbabwe or Rhodesia as it was then comfortable.
