When trying to run the graphics for this Boinc project, my system _always_ crashes with a blue screen. I am running Windows XP with ALL the updates installed, including SP2. I have a Dell Latitude C600 notebook with a PIII 850 CPU and an ATI Mobility M3 chipset, and the very latest drivers from ATI. |

The screensaver seems to not like ATI cards for some reason. It doesn't work on my ATI card, or on two or three others with ATIs that I've read about here on the forum. They don't seem too concerned about fixing it, and the pat answer you will receive is that your card must be OpenGL capable. There is a test you can do glview, that will check out your system. Mine is 99% OpenGL compliant. The only "problem" reported is that it has no 8bit palette texture support, so performance will suffer on old applications. I very highly doubt the screensaver is using an 8bit palette. Not to mention that both the S@H and LHC graphics utilize OpenGL, and they work just fine. So it must be something specific to ATIs? |
