Hello, I just signed in yesterday and found that the project does not seem that active. Is this expected ? Thank you, -- PAD |

The work for this project is from climate research centers around the world. Each of them is independent, and provides work here as and when they have a need for data, which isn't constantly. There are about 8,000 computers currently available, and the work is usually in batches of 1-2 thousand at a time. The last batch was 520, for Linux only. So, just keep waiting. Work will show up sooner or later. Project status page |

Bear in mind that some tasks might be only available for one particular OS. The most recent batch was Linux only. More common are Windows only. |

1. How can we know what OS a recent batch is for? I see this on the project status page: UK Met Office HadAM4 at N216 resolution 380 4385 332.09 (178.45 - 426.03) But there are no tasks I can run, or at least, no tasks are running. 2. Is it normal to only see "Communication deferred" and it refresh every hour? It's done this for a while but nothing runs. Any feedback? |

The Application webpage for this site tells which apps go with which OS. https://www.cpdn.org/apps.php So the N216 is Linux only. Yes, there is a one hour backoff after the client communicates with the server before it will do so again. You can force a recommunication from the client, but it will only request work no sooner than an hour after the last communication. |

WCG has announced a new climate project about African rainfall. I don’t know when they will debut the first WU’s. Hopefully, this will fill some of the void as CPDN seems to be moving to Linux only. |

WCG has announced a new climate project about African rainfall. I don’t know when they will debut the first WU’s. Hopefully, this will fill some of the void as CPDN seems to be moving to Linux only. They started issuing work units on Oct 30th and have been since, but there is not a continuous stream of work units available for anyone who wants some. There's probably some combination of work unit storage values in boinc manager and best project to run it with that would get you the most work. Perhaps there's guidance in the WCG forums. Here's the history of work units returned: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewProjectsHistory.do?projectShortName=arp1&numRecordsPerPage=14 I've run a few. The turnaround time was about 8 hours for 1 on my Ryzen 2600X and 20-24 hours on my Phenom II 965. Those were run in conjunction with MIP, which uses a lot of cache so they might run faster with other WCG projects. |
