Chicago isn't the windiest in the US. (Based on OLD data.) It is said to be based on politician's blather. "We have met the enemy and he is us." -- Pogo Greetings from coastal Washington state, the scenic US Pacific Northwest. |

There are several possible origins of the nickname. The one mentioned on the Hancock tower tour is when Chicago lobbied to host the World Fair. |

There are six videos posted from the conference so far. Most are interesting even if they don't directly help with running boinc as a cruncher. |

The standard time zones were set in Chicago in 1883, at the instigation of the railroads. The idea then spread throughout the world. https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-1988-11-06-8802130818-story.html |

Railway time was the standardised time arrangement first applied by the Great Western Railway in England in November 1840, the first recorded occasion when different local mean times were synchronised and a single standard time applied. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Railway_time |

It is a wonder that it does not happen more often.
Certainly Greenwich was designated as the prime meridian first, and the basis for standard time. (I have done the usual tourist thing and straddled the line). I think that Chicago added the time zones, necessary for a large country like the U.S. and then the world. |
