Hi The one and only wu that I\'ve downloaded for climateprediction.net has always shown 2500+ hours to completetion. It does seem to be making progress (3.91% to date) but the Report Deadline has long past. Is this normal? I\'m running the BOINC version (hadsm3 4.03) and my computer is an AMD Duron 1440 with 500MB RAM. |

Check the year on that deadline date - I think you'll find it is 2005... <a href="http://www.nmvs.dsl.pipex.com/"><img src="http://boinc.mundayweb.com/cpdn/stats.php?userID=6&team=off&trans=off"></a> |

Yeah, that's very likely the correct runtime. See: <a href="http://www.climateprediction.net/info/part_faq.php#q2.2">http://www.climateprediction.net/info/part_faq.php#q2.2</a> and <a href="http://www.climateprediction.net/info/tech_faq.php">http://www.climateprediction.net/info/tech_faq.php</a> There are three phases each having 259248 timesteps, for a total of 777744 timesteps. How long each Ts takes depends on your CPU, OS, system load, etc. My Athlon 1100MHz machine is running just under 8 seconds per Ts, that would mean over 1700 hours if running 24/7 with 100% Boinc resource share. And it will take longer now that I'm sharing some resources with LHC Project. BTW: CPDN will generate a "trickle" message every 10802 timesteps, so you will see credit accumulating. |

See <a href="http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=2389">here</a> for advice on running it. In particular, it would be best not to use the screensaver and to view the graphics only occasionally, as they probably use a lot of your CPU. Disk performance can also play a part - it may be worth doing a disk cleanup/defrag (suspend and close BOINC first for safety). Also wise to make the occasional backup of your BOINC folder if you have space. |

Thanks very much for your response. The links to the faq were exactly what I needed to see. And, honestly, I did try searching for the answer before I posted my question. Thanks John |

It never occurred to me that they'd allow that much time! I'm learning more about this all the time. Thanks John |

I've never been one to want to waste cycles on a screensaver or viewing graphics anyway. But I will make a point of backing it up now and then...considering it's going to be working on this wu for MONTHS! Thanks John |
