This issue is going on for quite some time. After I start BOINC to run for some minutes and then switch BOINC to paused mode, climateprediction.net tasks don't pause and keep on running. The tasks show in the manager as paused, but they are not, and consuming full CPU power (1 core full 100% per task). It is the only project that is not listening to the BOINC manager. It is not so that they will stop after a few minutes, tried that, they will run until they are finished or killed. Tasks: hadam4 8.52 i686 linux I would like to see this issue being resolved, as I otherwise have to stop number crunching this project. Kind regards, Chris |

I have never seen this behavior in the many tasks I've run. A couple questions:
How are you pausing BOINC? Suspend in the Activity menu? Suspend in the Projects tab? Suspend in the Tasks tab? |

Is it happening on both machines? Just checked on both my machines, both running 7.17.0 , one self compiled and one a self extracting file linked to from the BOINC forums and tasks stop as they should weather suspended individually, by activity tab or by suspending the project. My computers are both Ubuntu20.04 but that shouldn't make any difference. I have a feeling there were some issues with 7.15.x so it may be worth upgrading to 7.16. I will have a hunt on the BOINC forums and see if it shows anything. One last thing to check - are you using BOINC Manager or are you using the command line to pause BOINC? |

There's not a lot out there discussing 7.15.0, but Richard Haselgrove, boinc expert on the general boinc forums had this to say about odd numbered builds and 7.15.0 last year... The numbering policy is: |

If you see v7.15.0 out in the wild, it's a private build, made for testing and possibly with modifications not intended for general use. I must have been half asleep to not think about why Chris was running a development version of BOINC. I think Gianfranco's repository has sometimes had an odd numbered build in it. |

I was thinking that it may be a "Gianfranco problem". It all depends on how the "suspend" is being done. |
