Did it just download it, or did it also start it and replace the previous WU?

How many days is your cache? And how many hours are left on the first WU? If the number of hours left on the first WU is less than the number of hours of cache, then this is completely normal and expected behavour.

Cache set to 2 days and CPDN had about 24 hrs left to complete, also running Seti@H. The new WUWU is just waiting for the 1st one to finish, so I will consider, all is well in BOINCland lolol...

I hit 94 percent today but no new model yet. I have 26 hours left on the work unit. I guess since I am set to keeping .1 to 1 day's cache, then when it gets to 24 hours left it might download a new work unit. I am doing LHC and SETI also, with equal sharing. So it will be more than three days before this work unit finishes. I am kind of excited to be finishing a CPDN model.

In the way I interpret the cache mechanism

you shouldn't see a download until you get to 0.8 hrs left.

the download is triggered by reaching the min (0.1 in your case) and fills till it reaches or surpasses the max (can't get a part workunit)

since you are running 3 projects equally your cache refills will trigger at

1/3 * 0.1 days = 0.8 hours

Congratulations Pam (fingers crossed). Finished runs are really what this project is all about, and you're right, if feels good to finish one when they take so long. Keep crunching :)

This math assumes equal resource shares. It should be:

Resource fraction * 0.1 days = ?

Where the resource fraction = CPDN share / (total of all resource shares).

But the estimate is correct in that it uses the low water mark for the refill rather than the high water mark.

the math I provided was for Pam's specific situation. She did state she was using equal sharing.

Being the impatient sort, I adjusted the resource sharing so CPDN was 98% and LHC and SETI were the other two percent. This allowed me to get the model finished yesterday on the Pentium M laptop. To my horror, it had the unintended side effect of causing another CPDN download on the hyperthreaded P4 machine. I didn't expect that, since that work unit had 77 hours to go. That machine can run two processes and I said I wanted CPDN 98% of the time, so obviously both processors should run it 98% of the time, I guess. I just hope going back to equal shares means I won't get another one when that work unit finishes.

So I got one model done in just over a month (with the "cheating" right at the end). Too bad they won't put that Pentium M chip in a desktop. It's a crunching champion.

Pam
