Windows tasks are rare these days. there has been just one batch in the past few months. Coming soon to the testing branch will be the multi-core OpenIFS tasks. Once they are running well under Linux they will be rolled out to other platforms as virtual box tasks but as the two people most responsible for these have had covid recently, the testing tasks have gone back a week or so. Long term it may be that the Hadley model tasks which includes all current task types on main site will be retired which would with VB tasks mean everything would be multi-platform but I wouldn't hold my breath. Also worth looking at the threads about using WSL to run Linux tasks from Windows. Though currently there aren't any tasks showing on the server status page. |

I took a break from Climateprediction some time ago, as there appeared to be no Windows-based tasks available. Now retried, for a week, again no joy. Should I let it be?CPDN will run on different flavours of Linux VMs, including WSL and VirtualBox. This message link and thread: https://www.cpdn.org/forum_thread.php?id=9025&postid=64962#64962 gives a rundown on using Oracle VirtualBox 6 and ubuntu 20.04 LTS: Make sure you find the correct 32 bit libraries for your Linux version: https://www.cpdn.org/forum_thread.php?id=8916 Please note the importance of pausing and managing M$ Windoze updates, otherwise the updates will routinely crash models. The ubuntu VM has migrated quite happily to a newer PC with Windows 10 and VirtualBox. I've also got a Mac Mojave VM running and posted details on how to install it here: https://www.cpdn.org/forum_thread.php?id=9124&postid=65231#65231 |
