Appears to be an issue with clients 7.20 and earlier not connecting to CPDN. I have confirmed this on my linux machine with 7.18. It works fine for the cpdn.dev project, but not for the main cpdn.org project. I have reported it to Andy @ CPDN.

The error I get is: Scheduler request failed : HTTP internal server error

If I turn on the event log debug options, there's more detail but I still can't see exactly what the cause of the problem is. The SSL certificate appears to be correct.

It was around then I think BOINC started using a newer version of openssl. but looking at the release notes for 7.22.1 I can't find anything that sheds light on the subject.

The biggest change was abandoning the use of a separate ca-bundle file with SSL certificates (which occasionally expired before being updated), and using something called 'schannel' instead.

I've looked at a similar debug log from a later version of BOINC (which connected successfully), but I agree - it's very hard to see a clear cause for the error.

One significant difference is that this Linux log shows the use of HTTP2, whereas my Windows log is still showing HTTP1.1

I'll look at a Linux log later.

I also did some searching on git-hub but suspect my skills at tracking things down there are not up to the job Richard.

This thread had some discussion of this. I looked at that conversation but the logfile there is quite different. In this case, everything looks fine until the final 'failed' message.

Well spotted. I wonder if that's the issue.

I presume the 'internal server' part of the fail message refers to the local system rather than the CPDN side. Andy upgraded the dev-site a few weeks ago to the latest server, to get the updates for the memory bound bug affecting OpenIFS tasks. I wonder if that sorted something out which is an issue on the main site?

May not be significant but couple of days ago I upgraded the Ubuntu too.

HTTP2 may be a red-herring. Both Mint 20 and Mint 21 used it for a successful connection, though Mint 22 has dropped back to HTTP1.1

I don't have a 'below 7.20' client to test Windows as well. I only tried from linux.

As far as I can tell it started happening just before 5pm (BST) on Friday 25th October, until then older versions worked fine.
If we are no longer pointing fingers at a certificate that has expired then I would be thinking about the sort of things that have happened in the past late on Friday afternoons !

Uploads and downloads that aren't contacting the scheduler still work, Zip files go up for example.
Clicking on Update is a fail.
Strangely Free-DC and BOINCstats can't access the stats files that have been produced daily with updated information since the 25th.

This was the cause of my error posted in the "new work announcements" thread. My Windows PCs are/were running 7.20.2 and my Linux PCs a version well before that. Upgrading to 8.0.2 solved the Windows problems.

I have win10 host with Boinc 7.16.5 and it received eas25 resend task about 3 hours ago.

which made me wonder what would happen if you detach & reattach, whether that would cause the problem.

The comment about boincstats not working either makes me wonder if Oxford have been tidying up some old aliases in the DNS for cpdn.

All I can do is pass this back to Andy and find out if there were any changes last Friday. Thanks all.

The comment about boincstats not working either makes me wonder if Oxford have been tidying up some old aliases in the DNS for cpdn.

I can not update my community preferences here. When I update my avatar and/or the new address of the BoincStats sic, I get just an empty page and preferences are not updated.
(BoincStats updated userIDs last weekend and my old id is not recognized anymore, I know the new one but cpdn won't make the change for some reason. I got it updated on other project community preferences.)

The subsequent files all downloaded successfully.. I wasn't paying attention at the time to enable http debug in time so it only showed anything for the ones that worked. Now on project backoff.
If not sorted soon, I will miss the boat on these ones the rate they are going.
